Overview

You will be assigned a state vehicle that is equipped with your virtual office. This position requires frequent in-state travel, may require out-of-town stays up to a week at a time, and occasional meetings at the office, and will be scheduled to work four 10-hour days per week.

The State of Utah Labor Commission has a vacant Elevator Inspector position open in the Boiler, Elevator, and Coal Mine Safety Division. As an Elevator Inspector, you will be responsible for jurisdictional inspection of elevators, escalators, wheelchair lifts, and other lift devices for compliance. Due to the minimal supervision of the position, we need a self-starter with high integrity. Within your first six months, you will be required to pass the State exam and eventually be required to pass the NAESA QEI examination.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and conducting inspections.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines, etc.
  • Providing consultation, making recommendations, giving appropriate advice, and/or facilitating decisions.
  • Analyzing, summarizing, and/or reviewing data; reporting findings, interpreting results, and/or making recommendations.
  • Maintaining detailed inspection or investigation records, preparing reports, and attending to other related administrative requirements.
Ideal Candidate
  • Strong work management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills; ability to access web databases to enter and search information.
  • The willingness to travel the state for inspections.
Minimum Requirements
  • 1+ years of training or experience in the construction, maintenance, repair, inspection, or testing of elevators, or equivalent or related equipment.
Preferred
  • A Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification.
  • Been trained in the construction, maintenance, repair, inspection, or testing of elevator equipment ("elevator personnel").
  • At least one year of experience performing inspections and performing or witnessing tests on elevator equipment.
  • Four years of verifiable documented experience in the mechanical and/or electrical aspects of the elevator industry.
  • A mechanical engineering degree, US Navy Engineering schooling for elevators, and/or two years of college courses in an elevator industry-related engineering field.
  • Experience or training with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) codes and standards.

Qualifications

  • Successful applicants will be required to pass exams and become certified as a Utah Elevator Inspector within one (1) year.
  • A valid driver's license is required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA
    53-3-202(1)(a).
