Onsite - Medical Biller – Mental Health Office
The Onsite Medical Biller is responsible for managing all aspects of the billing and revenue cycle process for a mental health practice. This role ensures accurate claim submission, timely reimbursement, and compliance with federal, state, and insurance regulations specific to behavioral health services. The Medical Biller works closely with providers, clinical staff, and patients to resolve billing issues while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in a sensitive healthcare environment.
Responsibilities- Prepare, review, and submit electronic claims for mental health services (therapy, psychiatric evaluations, medication management, IOP, TMS, etc.)
- Ensure accurate coding using CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes specific to behavioral health
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and mental health benefits
- Obtain and track authorizations for services when required
- Review, correct, and resubmit denied or rejected claims
- Follow up on outstanding claims and past‑due balances
- Post insurance and patient payments accurately
- Manage patient statements and assist with billing inquiries in a professional and compassionate manner
- Maintain accurate documentation within the EHR/EMR system
- Work closely with providers to ensure proper documentation supports billing
- Monitor accounts receivable and generate billing reports
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and behavioral health billing regulations
- Stay updated on payer policies and reimbursement guidelines for mental health services
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred)
- Minimum 1–2 years of medical billing experience (behavioral health experience preferred)
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
- Familiarity with mental health billing requirements and insurance authorizations
- Experience with EHR/EMR and medical billing software
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
- Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or related certification
- Experience billing for therapy, psychiatry, IOP, or TMS services
- Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans
$23 - $25 hourly
