Are you ready for your next career step as an Occupational Therapist in Acute Care? This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated occupational therapist to be permanently appointed to our Level 3 Acute Care position. You will have the opportunity to contribute clinical expertise in the management of a range of specialty areas including oncology, haematology, and general medical patients at St George Hospital.

Other clinical specialty areas include respiratory, cardiology, vascular, general medical and general surgical inpatients.

The role is also responsible for providing clinical supervision and daily support of Level 1-2 occupational therapists, rostered allied health assistants, and students. We are a supportive department focused on person centered, compassionate care. We have a strong focus on clinical and leadership skill development, and strive to provide consistent high quality occupational therapy services across the campus. Our department consists of 38 occupational therapists and support staff, and we work across a variety of inpatient, outpatient and community services. Clinically we provide services to aged care, acute surgical and medical, trauma, neurological, rehabilitation, palliative care, lymphoedema and hands patients.

We coordinate a robust student program, and provide a variety of professional development opportunities. We support flexible work practices, protected time for non clinical tasks (quality improvement, continuing professional education, and leadership development) and enjoy a positive and supportive workplace culture.

As a Level 3 Occupational Therapist you will plan, coordinate, and implement in-depth levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge within Occupational Therapy in order to provide high quality occupational therapy care to patients consistent with NSW Health and SESLHD policies, procedures and standards.

Selection Criteria
  • Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and Current Registration with AHPRA.
  • Extensive post graduate clinical experience in acute care - including, but not limited to, oncology, haematology, respiratory, cardiology, vascular, general medical and general surgical sub specialties.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  • Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
