The Director Medical Services and Clinical Governance (DMS&CG) is a senior member of the St George Hospital Executive, working in partnership with the General Manager, Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Executive colleagues to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight and professional medical leadership across the Hospital. The role contributes to the overall leadership and management of the Facility, supporting organisational priorities and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and sustainable healthcare services.

Reporting to the General Manager, the DMS&CG is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of Medical Services, the Medical Workforce Unit and the Hospital s clinical governance portfolio. This includes oversight of medical workforce planning, recruitment, credentialing, deployment, wellbeing, performance, industrial matters and budget management, ensuring a capable, engaged and sustainable medical workforce that meets current and future service requirements.

The DMS&CG provides executive leadership for clinical governance, quality and safety systems, accreditation, clinical risk management, complaints management, open disclosure, medico-legal and coronial matters, and supports the continuous improvement of patient outcomes and service quality.

The role also serves as the Hospital Incident Controller, providing executive leadership for emergency management, disaster preparedness and business continuity. Working collaboratively with Clinical Directors, Divisional leaders and multidisciplinary teams, the DMS&CG strengthens clinical standards, supports effective clinical operations and promotes a culture of professionalism, accountability and continuous improvement. The position provides expert advice to the General Manager and Executive on medical, clinical governance and organisational risks, informing strategic decision-making, service planning and organisational performance.

The position plays a key role in maintaining excellence in patient care, education and research while leading the medical workforce through periods of organisational change. The role requires an experienced and visible senior medical leader with the capability to build strong clinical partnerships, foster engagement and professional culture, and ensure services are delivered in accordance with NSW Health legislation, policy, governance requirements and the values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.

• Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA registration number on application. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award and demonstrated experience in medical administration in a secondary or tertiary facility.
