Washington County Water Conservancy District is looking for a full-time Utility Locator (Blue Stakes) to join our Field Operations team in St. George, UT. GENERALPURPOSE
Utility Locator will identify and mark underground utility assets before excavation, using specialized electronic equipment, maps, and blueprints to prevent damage, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance and communicating with relevant parties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Locates the district’s underground utility infrastructure using GIS and other electronic equipment
- Marks utilities with paint lines, flags, etc.
- Utilizes software applications to document findings
- Drives to multiple infrastructure locations daily.
- Understands and adheres to District safety policies and procedures.
- Adheres to traffic, work site and utility safety protocols.
- Understands and adheres to Safe Drinking Water Act and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Inspects construction projects as needed to ensure protection of district facilities.
- Represents the district in a positive, professional manner while communicating and coordinating with contractors, engineers and members of the public
- Assists operations staff as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One to two years of job-related experience preferred.

An equivalent combination of training and related experience
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to effectively use technology such as basic computer, email, texting, and electronic devices; read maps, drawings, and blueprints; perform responsibilities independently; effectively communicate both through written and oral means; share information in one-on-one and group situations; collect, analyze, and interpret data; evaluate and troubleshoot problems, cooperate and work effectively with others. Stamina to work outdoors for multiple hours each day in various conditions.
SpecialQualifications
- Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License and maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.
- Must obtain Utah Water Distribution, Grade IV certification within one year of hire date.
- Must be willing to take and pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to a criminal background check.
