Location: St. George

The Associate Dean is a member of the BYU Continuing Education (CE) Dean’s Office and serves as a member of the Dean’s executive leadership team. They serve as a member of CE leadership councils and represent CE on university councils and in meetings as assigned. This Associate Dean serves as the chief executive officer over assigned programs within CE and fulfills other responsibilities as assigned.

What

you'll do in this position:

Oversee assigned CE programs

  • Oversee the development of strategy and propose annual strategic plan submissions and revisions.
  • Develop and align mission, goals, and measures with university and CE mission, goals, and measures.
  • Approve budget proposals and budget adjustments for review by the Dean.
  • Hold leadership accountable to strategic plans and budgets.
  • Facilitate training opportunities to improve operational efficiency and quality of service offered.
  • Monitor, maintain, and build teamwork and unity.
  • Facilitate working relationships between supervised support departments and supported program areas.
Dean's Office executive leadership team
  • Participate in CE executive leadership as a member of the Dean's Office Council and the CE Leadership Council.
  • Lead CE council meetings as assigned and follow up on council responsibilities.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and events representing CE.
  • Attend meetings and events in place of the Dean or other Associate Deans, as needed.
  • Oversee the leadership of assigned programs.
  • Oversee preparation and updating of job descriptions, selecting candidates, conducting interviews, and hiring employees.
  • Evaluate employee performance throughout the year and review and approve performance and development plans.
  • Encourage individual training opportunities for employees to improve operational efficiency and the quality of programs offered.
  • Oversee contingency plans for all key functions and roles.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • 8 or more years of applicable professional experience, and 3 or more years of demonstrated management experience.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with CE leadership and direct reports.
  • Experience with strategic relationship-building
  • Maintains confidentiality and use discretion in all communications
  • Understand and follow organization policies and processes.
  • Manage personal emotions and influence those around you to foster a positive work culture.
  • Effectively model ethical standards and demonstrate integrity.
  • Use of software for data analysis and preparing reports.
  • Effectively train and mentor employees in professional responsibilities.
  • Ability to identify process improvements.
  • Ability to manage issues related to applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to make informed and complex decisions.
  • Able to travel as assigned
Preferred
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • 10 or more years of relevant professional and academic experience, and 5 or more years of demonstrated management experience.
  • Working knowledge of areas of supervision.

Pay Grade: 57 Typical Starting Pay: $134,500 - $175,000

* The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.*
