Description

RAM Aviation, Space & Defense is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, and actuators. Since 1975, we’ve supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. As one of Southern Utah’s largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing.

From our advanced facility in St. George, we build the future of aerospace—on, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!

Manufacturing Engineer (Cleanroom - 2nd Shift)

You are the heartbeat of our production floor. This is not a desk job; you will be on the line, working shoulder-to-shoulder with assemblers to optimize the build process for our precision solenoids. Your mission is to eliminate waste, balance the line, and make the operator’s job easier and more repeatable. You will champion Lean principles within the cleanroom, troubleshoot bottlenecks in real-time, and ensure that our high‑mix, low‑volume production meets the rigorous quality standards of spaceflight.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Process Optimization (Lean Focus): Lead the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles within the assembly value stream. You will continuously analyze process flows to reduce cycle time, eliminate waste (Muda), and improve line balancing.
  • Shop Floor Support: Serve as the immediate technical support for production. If a process stalls or a machine goes down, you are the first responder to troubleshoot and restore flow.
  • Continuous Improvement: Plan and facilitate Kaizen events with cross‑functional teams (operators, quality, maintenance) to solve chronic production issues.
  • Documentation & Standardization: Create and refine manufacturing documentation, including Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Process Routings. You ensure that "Best Practices" are documented and followed.
  • Operator Training: Develop training modules and certify operators on critical assembly processes. You will coach the team on proper techniques to ensure consistency.
  • Process Reliability: Establish preventative maintenance protocols for assembly equipment and monitor process capability to ensure zero defects.
  • New Product Readiness: Partner with design engineering to provide "Design for Assembly" (DFA) feedback. You ensure that new products are designed to be built efficiently on the floor.
  • Audit Readiness: Maintain process compliance for Nadcap and Customer audits, ensuring all shop floor activities match the documentation.
Requirements
  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Education: B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering is required.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on assembly operations.
  • Lean Mindset: Strong understanding of Lean principles (5S, One‑Piece Flow, Value Stream Mapping, Visual Management). Practical experience leading continuous improvement projects is highly preferred.
  • Technical Writing: Ability to write clear, concise Work Instructions that are easy for operators to follow.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot process failures using root cause analysis tools (5 Whys, Fishbone).
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills. You must be able to build trust with operators and communicate effectively with management.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Cleanroom assembly environments.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD (Solid Works) for reading drawings or minor fixture adjustments (preferred, but not required).
