Fleet MechanicWashington County Road Department
Washington County is seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment that support essential county operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting complex issues, working independently, and making a direct impact in the community.
Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, and maintain gas and diesel‑powered vehicles and equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety checks.
- Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, fuel systems, and suspension components.
- Utilize computerized diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
- Perform welding, fabrication, tire repair, and field service work as needed.
- Maintain repair records, order parts, and manage shop inventory.
- Coordinate fleet maintenance schedules and support county departments.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of specialized coursework providing technical training in automotive and/or heavy maintenance and repair and computerized diagnostics.
- Four (4) years of experience repairing gas and diesel‑powered vehicles and equipment.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicle repair
- Diesel engine diagnostics and repair
- Hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems
- Automotive air conditioning systems
- Welding and fabrication
- Computerized diagnostic tools and testing equipment
- Preventive maintenance program management
- Utah Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) not required but preferred
Successful candidates are self‑motivated problem solvers who can work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and make sound repair decisions.
Additional Requirements- Must obtain a State Safety Inspection Certificate within 90 days of hire
- Personal cell phone required
