Wastewater Collection Operator II Starting Salary: 48 ($48,320/year)
Individuals hired in this position have the opportunity to progress up to $72,480/year, which is the maximum salary for this position as of December 2025.
Wastewater Collection Operator III Starting Salary: 52 ($53,336/year)
Individuals hired in this position have the opportunity to progress up to $80,004/year, which is the maximum salary for this position as of December 2025.
Wastewater Collection Operator IV Starting Salary: 56 ($58,873/year)
Individuals hired in this position have the opportunity to progress up to $88,309/year, which is the maximum salary for this position as of December 2025.

Summary
Drives and operates a variety of mobile or stationary construction and maintenance equipment for the City of St. George. This is skilled work in light equipment operation and requires minor routine maintenance of related equipment.(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. WastewaterOperator I, II
- Operates at least two of the following items of construction equipment: loader, backhoe, dual transmission truck, dump truck, trailer, extend-a-jet, C.C.T.V. analysis truck, combination jet rod vacuum truck, portable pumps, welders, programmable flow meter, sampler, and miscellaneous power hand tools.
- May be assigned to operate various pieces of equipment, and to perform minor maintenance on equipment assigned.
- Operates equipment for projects such as excavating trenches and sewer lines, back filling holes and trenches, hauling, and clearing plugged sewer lines and storm drains, etc.
- May assist in the loading and unloading of trucks, laying pipe in trenches, using air jack hammers to break out concrete and asphalt, or other types of general physical labor.
- May be required to program flow meters and samplers and to operate laptop computer for collecting data.
- Performs routine maintenance or emergency repairs as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Operates and maintains, with minimum guidance and instruction, a variety of wastewater related machinery and equipment in one of the following areas: construction, system maintenance, or system monitoring. Maintains skill level for all equipment in the area assigned.
- Performs routine, minor, and emergency maintenance and repair of all equipment. Keeps equipment clean and presentable. Reports any problems that require additional maintenance.
- Cross trains on equipment in areas other than assigned in order to assist in department as needed.
- Observes all aspects of collection systems and other wastewater City facilities. Corrects problems as they are found or refers them to the appropriate supervisor as needed.
- Trains operators in the proper operation of the equipment according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, as well as all other tasks related to the work.
- Trains operators in all safety procedures and requirements relating to the work being performed and the equipment being used, including confined space and other OSHA regulations.
- Acts as a crew leader in the department, including making reasonable decisions, using good judgment, and making efficient use of time and resources. Displays initiative in problem solving and providing services.
- Provides courteous, professional, and helpful service to the public and other City departments.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Periodically disagreeable working conditions such as working outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather. Exposure to water, mud, dirt, and grease. May require frequent exposure to disagreeable conditions, including fumes, odors, chemicals, infectious waste, equipment noise and vibration, traffic, heat, cold, and dampness. Moderately heavy physical activity. Required to push, pull, or lift up to 50-100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20-50 pounds of force frequently.
Difficult working positions. May have to stand, walk, or sit in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Frequent exposure to health and occupational hazards under controlled safety conditions. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
