Description

The Transportation Lead is responsible for understanding the daily and weekly plans of the Utah Flour Mill, and fulfilling those transportation related needs, through the services of the team of Hippo drivers in Richmond, UT.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as liaison between Hippo Trucking and our customer the Utah Flour Mill.
  • Communicates daily, effectively, and professionally with the Mill & Hippo personnel to gather the required weekly load and trailer moves.
  • Relays daily plant & customer goals to team members, and ensures completion of all work.
  • Monitors Wash Tickets & schedules trailer washes or sanitization as needed.
  • Acquires all Move sheets, Bills of Lading, wash tickets, and transportation related documents, then provides to management for proper record keeping and billing.
  • Performs required DOT pre-trip, in-route, and post-trip inspections in accordance with FMCSA regulations & documents.
  • Stages trailers to be loaded or unloaded including van and pneumatic trailers.
  • Delivers shipments—operating a Class A commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) over 10,000 lbs and interstate commerce as required.
  • Transfers materials to and from railcars as required.
  • Conducts trailer/railcar inspections for customer sign off.
  • Ensures trailers are moved to & from the wash or sanitizing station when necessary.
  • Monitors Truck and Trailer Registrations and Annual Inspection expiration dates.
  • Reviews equipment for compliance and schedules repairs as needed.
  • Communicates any issues, concerns, incidents to Management for resolution.
  • Utilizes ELD to maintain accurate records of duty status (RODS) to ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations.
  • Completes Road Tests for new driver applicants.
  • Trains new hires in various aspects of the job.
  • Mentors local drivers, with a positive attitude, to facilitate necessary outcomes.
  • Be available for varying shifts, including possible evenings, weekends, or overnights.
  • Provides 24 hour coverage to mill, including schedule creation, & giving visibility to the customer and management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must possess leadership and customer service skills.
  • Must have 2 years verifiable Class A CDL like experience in the last 3 years.
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures.
  • Ability to perform safety-sensitive functions under DOT/FMCSA regulations, including physical duties such as coupling/uncoupling and manual handling of equipment.
Working Conditions
  • Working outdoors in the elements (i.e. rain, snow, etc.).
  • Cranking of handles.
  • Lifting, as needed.
  • Bending, squatting, climbing as needed.
  • Role is classified as Safety Sensitive under DOT Regulations, and is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements.
