Compensation: Licensed Salary Schedule ($56,530.85 - $, annually DOE)

Position Specifics

The Special Education Teacher assigned to an Intensive Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Program provides specially designed instruction and behavioral support for students with significant social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. The role differs from a general education teaching role in its primary focus on individualized instruction, intensive behavior support, and therapeutic-informed practices necessary for students who require a highly structured and supported learning environment.

The teacher is a key member of a multidisciplinary student success team and is responsible for integrating academic instruction with social-emotional skill development to support student access, engagement, and progress.

General Description

In alignment with the NWRESD’s mission statement, this position provides specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. The students served are enrolled in a self-contained classroom in a K-12 behavioral school setting. The Licensed Special Education Teacher collaborates with mental health professionals and support staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where each student can achieve their full potential.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Current Oregon Teaching License with Special Education endorsement; or ability to obtain license and endorsement within the timeline specified by district.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Experience in the education of children who exhibit behavior and emotional disorders.
  • Valid Driver’s License; available transportation and proof of auto insurance.
  • Bilingual and biliteracy skills preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet the unique needs of students.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in various subjects, tailoring teaching methods to suit individual learning styles.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure inclusive classroom practices.
  • Develop and implement instructional programs that address the targeted needs on the IEP.
  • Utilize appropriate strategies (behavioral and instructional), materials, and other available resources that will assist the students to achieve the goals and objectives addressed in the IEP.
  • Monitor and track student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
