Compensation: Classified Salary Schedule - Range C: $22.07 - $26.39 per hour; DOE
Bargaining Unit: OSEA
FTE: 0.9375 FTE - 37.5 hours per week

Position Specifications: The Instructional Assistant (IA) assigned to an Intensive Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) classroom supports students with significant social‑emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs under the direction of a licensed Special Education Teacher. This role differs from a general education instructional assistant position due to the intensity of behavioral support, the need for consistent implementation of individualized plans, and the requirement to respond to high levels of student dysregulation.
The IA is a critical member of the student success team and plays a key role in supporting a structured, safe, and therapeutic learning environment.
General DescriptionThis position carries out program activities as planned and scheduled by licensed personnel and provides instruction to individual and small groups of students, as advised by the licensed staff, with a focus on supporting Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP). This position supervises student safety and behavior in various settings.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to lift students from a wheelchair to the floor and back, and on and off of a changing table.
- Child Care Central Background Registry Clearance (applicable for all employees assigned to Early Learning positions/worksites).
- A valid driver's license
- Ability to speak Spanish, preferred
- Certificates as determined by the District, including a CPR certificate and instruction in blood borne pathogens. Other training as required by the District.
- Proficient in the use of computer and internet based applications, including but not limited to email, internet software, Google Suites, and word processing (MS Word).
- Prepare instructional materials under direction of licensed teacher.
- Provide instruction under the direction of licensed teacher.
- Assist teacher in working with students to complete assignments.
- Assist teacher in grading and recording students' assignments.
- Take and maintain data as needed and required by licensed teacher.
- Assist students with restroom needs as advised.
- Maintain students' safety and monitor appropriate behavior at recess, in class, and during bus loading and unloading. Notes discipline issues and completes accurate paperwork for reporting such incidents.
- Participate in restraint training as required.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Wash and dry children's clothing as needed.
- Wash dishes and toys as advised.
- Sanitize desks, tables, straws, oral motor equipment, and other items as advised.
- Arrange classroom furniture as advised.
