Reserve Deputy Volunteer

Position Title:

Reserve Deputy Volunteer Department or Program Overview:
The Purpose of the Reserve Program is to supplement and assist regular sworn deputies in their duties. The Reserve Unit provides professional, sworn volunteer reserve deputies who can augment regular staffing levels. Reserve Deputy volunteers must meet the same basic appointment requirements as that of a Regular Deputy and go through the same selection process. This involves a thorough and in-depth background check and a physical and psychological examination, including drug and alcohol testing.

Schedule and

Location:

Commitment of one year of service with a minimum of 20 volunteer hours per month. Location may vary with assignments.

General Statement of Duties:

Reserve Deputies will assist regular deputies in the enforcement of laws and in maintaining peace and order within Columbia County.

Attend ongoing meetings, in-service training and education workshops.

Computer skills are desired, but not necessary.

Must complete oral interviews.

Must successfully pass a background examination.

No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.

Must have transportation.

Must be dependable and punctual.

Specific Skills or

Certifications:

High School Diploma or G.E.D., must be a minimum of eighteen (21) years of age, a United States citizen.

Possess a valid Oregon Driver's License or State identification card.

Must meet all Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) standards and be able to successfully pass the DPSST Reserve Academy.

Be reliable, act responsibly and with integrity, be accountable for your actions, carry out duties according to the position description, be committed to Columbia County and your tour of service, undertake training as required, ask for support when needed, be courteous to the public, staff, other volunteers and value and support other team members.

Additional Training:
Volunteer Orientation training will be provided. Cost of the Physical and Psychological tests in the appointment process will be paid by the Sheriff's Office.
