Maintenance Technician (Full Time)
Village of St. Joseph, Illinois is hiring maintenance technicians to join our public works team. The role supports street, park, stormwater, building, and snow removal operations. Candidates must be able to safely operate heavy equipment, use email and spreadsheets for logs, and obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire. Positive attitude and strong customer service skills required. The position is open to both full‑time and part‑time opportunities.
Payand Benefits
Pay Range: $22.41 – $29.11 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Position Summary: The village is seeking a dependable and hardworking maintenance technician to support streets, stormwater systems, parks, forestry, public buildings, and snow removal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operate and maintain heavy equipment (trucks, snowplows, backhoes, skid steers, tractors, mowers)
- Perform maintenance and repair of stormwater infrastructure, streets, sidewalks, parks, and buildings
- Carry out seasonal duties (mowing, leaf pickup, brush removal, tree trimming)
- Perform snow and ice control operations (plowing, salting, manual removal)
- Conduct basic facility repairs (plumbing, carpentry, concrete, light electrical work)
- Maintain accurate records and logs using spreadsheets and software
- Use email and mobile or desktop devices to communicate and manage tasks
- Follow safety protocols and village procedures
- Interact professionally with residents, coworkers, and contractors
- Respond to emergency or after‑hours situations as part of an on‑call rotation
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Illinois driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a CDL (Class B with air brake endorsement) within 6 months of hire (training assistance available)
- Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively
- Basic computer proficiency (email, spreadsheets, digital recordkeeping)
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of general maintenance practices
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong customer service, communication skills, and positive, team‑oriented attitude
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Residency not required; proximity to village preferred
- Prior public works or municipal maintenance experience, or construction experience in street right‑of‑way
- Familiarity with stormwater systems and public facility maintenance
- Experience using GPS, mapping tools, or maintenance management software
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform manual tasks
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to noise, dust, traffic, and construction environments
