The Physician Contract Specialist serves as the lead for managing physician agreements within their assigned ministries/ region, currently identified as Livonia and Oakland. Provides operational and project management support for the hospital administrative team, including tracking and coordination of physician contract renewals, requests for new agreements, and managing intercompany agreements for physician services. May serve as project manager for assessing new service lines and work with various leaders to identify key contract elements.
Simultaneously manages multiple projects and follow-up of physician issues, which frequently are of a sensitive and intricate nature. Works directly with clinical leaders, administrators, physician leaders and a variety of multidisciplinary work groups.
Shifts Available: Days, Monday-Friday
Status Available: Full-time, 40 hours/week
Required Qualifications Education- High school diploma/GED with 5 year’s of physician contracting experience or associate or bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in business/ health care administration preferred.
- Experience interfacing with physicians and leaders required. Three years of experience in healthcare contract management preferred.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with multiple levels of professional staff across multiple organizations.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when preparing documentation.
- Technical skills generally required to execute responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
- Organizational skills to prioritize and coordinate required duties.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of physician employment agreements and independent contractor agreements. Should be well versed in the laws and regulations that impact provider contracts and compensation.
- Serves as lead to initiative contract requests and work collaboratively with colleagues in legal to request and execute agreements.
- Work collaboratively to address physician contract issues and payments, effective communication strategies with physicians will be required.
- Develops supporting materials such as tracking lists, meeting agendas, fair market value assessments and other materials to advise internal leaders on contract negotiations.
- Gathers and researches various types of background information on as necessary to support business justification for new and renewed agreements. Work collaboratively with strategy department for supplemental documentation as needed.
- Supports work groups or committees as assigned by ministry Chief Medical Officer or Regional Director, Provider Business Management.
- Manages and oversees projects as assigned by the Regional Director of Provider Business Management. Includes grid development and maintenance, holding people accountable for assigned tasks and due dates, etc.
- Track performance incentive goals and maintain documentation of achieved performance metrics. Manage payment process to ensure timely payment of incentives.
- Facilities communication with key stakeholders, such as the medical staff office, payroll, and human resources.
- Approve physician payment requests and work with compliance on tracking of physician time sheets.
