The unit is a 30-bed Surgical/Neurology unit caring for stroke, post-neurosurgery, post-orthopedic patients, and general medical issues. Emphasis is on early mobility, pain control, neuro-assessment, and patient/family-centered care. The patient-to-nurse ratio ranges from 4-5:1 on day shift and 5-6:1 on night shift. The unit values teamwork, continuous learning, teaching, high-quality care, and patient satisfaction.

About Corewell Health South – Lakeland Hospitals

The health system includes three hospitals, an outpatient surgery center, a regional cancer center, rehabilitation centers, two long-term care residences, home care and hospice services, and 34 affiliate physician practice locations. We provide inpatient and outpatient medical services throughout Southwest Michigan.

The RN, within the ANA scope of practice, uses the nursing process to provide professional nursing care with patient family-centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharge planning. The RN delivers quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes.

The RN engages with patient/family input and goals when planning the plan of care, and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning in the health record.

Required

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within 5 years
• Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years in a licensed health care role and must have passed the NCLEX licensure examination
• Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
• American Heart Association or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days
• NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS) within 90 days
