Packaging Engineer Overview
We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to help build, standardize, and improve packaging processes across a diverse product portfolio. This role will focus on creating scalable packaging standards, reducing product damage during shipping, and partnering closely with manufacturing and distribution teams to improve pack-out quality and efficiency.
This is a high-impact role with significant opportunity to define processes from the ground up and influence how products are packaged, protected, and shipped across multiple channels.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement standardized packaging processes across manufacturing and distribution locations
- Evaluate current packaging methods and identify opportunities to reduce product damage during shipping
- Design and document packaging configurations and pack-outs for a wide variety of products
- Work directly with plant floor teams to implement packaging standards and provide hands-on training
- Partner with manufacturing and distribution teams to ensure packaging solutions meet operational and customer requirements
- Support packaging for multiple shipping models, including direct-to-consumer, retail, and bulk shipments
- Collaborate with engineering and automation resources to support packaging automation initiatives
- Analyze opportunities to reduce packaging waste and improve material efficiency
- Explore where returnable or reusable packaging solutions may be appropriate
- Support packaging design using CAD tools as needed
- Travel to manufacturing and distribution sites to support implementation and continuous improvement efforts
- Experience developing or standardizing packaging processes in a manufacturing or distribution environment
- Understanding of consumer products packaging and distribution center requirements
- Hands-on experience with corrugated packaging and protective liners
- Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and supply chain teams
- Willingness to travel approximately 30%, with heavier travel early in the role
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with shop-floor personnel
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
- Exposure to both manufacturing plants and distribution centers
- Experience supporting or implementing packaging automation
- CAD experience (e.g., Solid Works or similar)
- Familiarity with ERP systems
- Approximately 30% travel, primarily to U.S. manufacturing and distribution locations
- Travel is expected to be higher during initial ramp-up and decrease over time
- Role may be based near a manufacturing or distribution facility
