About the Unit

The Medical‑Oncology Unit at Corewell Health South is a 36‑bed unit specializing in the care of adult patients with medical, cardiovascular, surgical, oncological, hospice, and palliative needs. This diverse patient population offers team members a rich and rewarding environment for continuous learning and professional growth. Our unit provides comprehensive care throughout patient admission—from initial diagnosis through treatment, recovery, or palliation. We are deeply committed to a team‑based approach, delivering high‑quality nursing care and essential educational and emotional support to patients and families at every stage of their journey.

Organization

Corewell Health South is part of a leading healthcare provider in Southwest Michigan, comprising three hospital systems dedicated to delivering comprehensive, patient‑centered care. Our network includes an outpatient surgical center, rehabilitation facilities, long‑term care centers, home care and hospice services, and numerous physician practice locations. In collaboration with the Marie Yeager Cancer Center—our regional hub for oncology services—our Oncology Certified RNs provide advanced, compassionate care to those receiving inpatient chemotherapy.

Scope

of Work

This is a weekend program requiring coverage of 48 out of 52 weekends across various locations throughout the system as needed. The weekend is defined as shifts between 3:00p.m. Friday and 7:30a.m. Monday; specific times may vary by location. The Registered Nurse (RN) practices within the ANA scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process to deliver patient‑ and family‑centered care. The RN conducts comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge coordination to tailor care to each patient’s unique needs and goals.

By partnering with patients and families, the RN incorporates their input into the care plan and develops personalized teaching strategies to support education, empowerment, and optimal health outcomes, fostering trust, enhancing satisfaction, and promoting holistic healing.

Qualifications
  • Graduate with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing within the last 5 years.
  • Graduates of a non‑accredited nursing school must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years in a licensed health‑care role.
  • Must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination and hold an active MI RN license.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within the last 90 days.
  • Preferred:
    Oncology certification—ONCC, ONS, or equivalent—with experience in Radiation Oncology, Infusion Clinic, or Medical Oncology within the last 2 years.
