Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly.
This position is selected for the Hiring Incentive Program. The incentive shall be in the amount of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1500.00). The hiring incentive will be paid (if funds are available) by the Department/Division which appoints the applicant.
The hiring incentive is not available to current City employees.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Dispatch emergency response personnel in matters regarding emergency, fire, administrative, etc. situations.
- Receive incoming calls, direct callers, and provide information.
- Determine location and nature of complaint and record and/or enter on all self-initiated and dispatched calls into a computer system
- Use two-way radio to perform computer aided dispatch duties; dispatch emergency response personnel, Police, Fire, and EMS.
- Forward complaints to supervisor or department within the Airport Police as needed, or direct callers to other Airport departments as appropriate.
- Request information and validate records and complete necessary forms.

Requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships. - Human Interaction:
Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance and/or interpretation to others, such as coworkers and the public, on how to apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations. - Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use:
Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as a computer, two-way radio, multi-line phone, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. - Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as driver’s license verification, communication report log, emergency or repair documentation, correspondence and general operating manuals. - Mathematical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. - Functional Reasoning:
Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Involves semi-routine standardized work, with some latitude for independent judgment regarding choices of action. - Situational Reasoning:
Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental and/or subjective criteria, as opposed to criteria that are clearly measurable or verifiable. - Environmental Factors:
Work is normally performed in an office environment under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to irate individuals poses a very limited risk of injury. - Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects and materials of moderate weight, twelve (12) to twenty (20) pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. - Sensory Requirements:
Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks, such as responding to various alarms and using radio equipment.
- Must be available to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- A ten year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions is Lambert International Airport.
One year of recent full-time paid dispatching experience;

, one year of customer service experience in a call center work environment.
Certifications: For positions is Lambert International Airport, incumbents must obtain certifications for REJIS (Regional Justice Information System), MULES (Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System) and NCIC (National Crime Information Center) by the end of their working test period and maintain them while employed by the City of St. Louis.
Preference: Previous experience as a Dispatcher.
