Qualifications

Required: Must provide a copy of your High School Diploma or High School Transcripts, or proof of GED. Must obtain or possess a current Substitute Certificate or a Teacher Certificate prior to start date. May be required to pursue and obtain MANDT Certification at the first available opportunity.

Individuals will be required to have one of the following to obtain a Substitute Certificate
  • High School Diploma, or high school transcripts, or proof of GED
  • Associates Degree or higher (need official transcripts for file)
  • 36 college credit hours (need official transcripts for file)
  • Completed Missouri’s 20-hour online substitute training program

Purpose

Supports students impacted by significant cognitive and communication delays as well as behavioral issues, and/or learning disabilities in a Specialized Programming setting, giving each student access to the highest quality education. Assists in teaching, tends to the needs of students, and collects data to meet educational goals. Works with the classroom teacher to provide accommodations, tailor lesson plans (alternative curriculum), and monitor student progress.

Job Functions
  • Attend work in a regular, reliable, and punctual manner.
  • To “telework” when requested by the District.
  • Assist teacher with clerical duties and classroom routines.
  • Administers classroom assignments for purpose of supporting instructional process.
  • Communicates with teachers and parents for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Monitor individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Report observations and incidents to appropriate instructional or administrative personnel, relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.).
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Assists students, individually or in small groups with lesson assignments for purpose of reinforcing learning concepts under direction of teacher.
  • Assist students with mobility needs (may involve lifting, toileting, etc.) and in appropriate cases, with medical assistance.
  • Demonstrates understanding of student needs (wheelchairs, assistive technology devices, etc.).
  • MANDT Trained (required annually).
  • Assist students while they are experiencing crisis.
  • Assist teachers while they are working with students in crisis situations.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Assist with implementing Board policy as it relates to seclusion and restraint.
  • Adheres to all safe room procedures.
  • Collects accurate data related to safe room procedures.
  • Participates on crisis response team.
  • Reinforce skills related to IEP goals.
  • Data collection for IEP goals.
  • Covering a class when a substitute teacher is unavailable.
  • Positive and professional interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
