Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Salary: Level II: up to $54,000.00;
Level III: up to $64,000.00
The Special Educator is responsible for providing individual and family services to enhance the learning, development, and social‑emotional skills of children with developmental delays, promoting literacy and early cognitive concepts while monitoring progress toward goals.
Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions- Determine eligibility and evaluate client needs.
- Administer onsite assessments and evaluations to coordinate direct special education early intervention services.
- Provide learning interventions in the natural environment.
- Determine appropriate services and interventions for the child/family.
- Work with contracted providers; assign clients, assist with early intervention program development, schedule evaluations, and provide general supervision to ensure services are timely and available.
- Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary/transdisciplinary team, contributing to the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Provide service to children and families in the child’s natural environment or the environment determined most appropriate by the early intervention team.
- Assist in initiating and implementing steps necessary for a smooth transition from the early intervention program.
- Supervise subordinate staff.
- Maintain presence at the office as an essential function.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and support the agency’s mission, vision, values, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior.
- Work effectively in a team environment, participating and assisting peers.
- Level II: Bachelor’s degree in special education, early childhood education, elementary education or a related field; valid teaching certificate in Special Education issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education; one year post‑baccalaureate special education teaching experience; ability to assess and evaluate children’s cognitive, social, emotional, communication, motor and adaptive abilities.
- Level III: Master’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field; bachelor’s degree in the same areas; valid teaching certificate in Special Education; two years post‑baccalaureate special education teaching experience; same assessment abilities.
Skills and Abilities
- Level II: Knowledge of early childhood development theories and concepts; ability to vary communication style; to persuade and influence outcomes; analyze and identify solutions to learning and development issues; assess children’s abilities to enhance school readiness.
- Level III: Knowledge of early childhood development theories and concepts; ability to develop and teach early childhood and special education principles using evidence‑based services; understand typical and atypical development; vary communication style; analyze and identify solutions; assess children; establish effective working relationships; communicate effectively; exercise initiative and independent judgment.
Work is performed in an office setting; requires standing, walking, reaching, long periods of sitting, daily computer and phone use. Employees must travel as required and be present at the office.
