Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant will collaborate with other departments, providing financial expertise and support during the decision-making process. Utilize accounting software and tools proficiently for data entry, analysis, and reporting. The Senior Accountant is expected to provide a higher level of expertise and experience, contributing significantly to the strategic value and developing methodologies to enhance the efficiency of the finance team.
Principal Role and Responsibilities- Evaluate monthly financial statements for Public Housing Authority and Affordable Housing entities.
- Complete monthly budget-to-actual variance analyses and collaborate with departmental leaders to identify root causes and corrective action plans.
- Explain financial variances both quantitatively and qualitatively to leadership.
- Perform financial forecasting to ensure expenditures remain aligned with approved budgets.
- Review and vet monthly financial packages, including comparative balance sheets, income statements, and variance reports.
- Evaluate, document, and update cost allocation methodologies.
- Ensure efficient Accounts Payable operations and accurate processing of vendor invoices and approvals.
- Utilize Yardi or Real Page to process and review invoices for proper cost allocations.
- Review and monitor LIHTC, HOME, HUD, City, County, Investor, Grant, and Loan financial agreements.
- Record loan and grant revenue in accordance with federal regulations.
- Prepare financial reports for Finance and Housing Administration leadership.
- Prepare reports and supporting documentation for auditors, government agencies, lenders, investors, and HUD audits.
- Prepare journal entries and perform month‑end closing activities, including processing accounts receivable transactions, tenant payments, cash deposits, and prepaid expenses.
- Maintain compliance with government grants and federal regulations.
- Prepare bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, and financial analyses.
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and desktop procedures.
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university.
- Five to seven years of experience in a position with similar duties preferred.
- Knowledge of tax credit reporting requirements is a plus.
- Experience with property management software desired (Yardi, Real Page, App Folio).
- Knowledge of HUD Procurement and Contracting policies and procedures, and principles of budget preparation and control is a plus.
The Senior Accountant will primarily work within the office environment but may also engage in occasional physical tasks such as bending, reaching, sitting, and walking during the workday. This role may require the ability to lift items weighing at least 20 pounds. Moreover, the individual will also spend extended periods each day working on a personal computer.
