Job Summary/Scope

Recreation Attendant

Responsible for performing duties associated with setting up, operating and closing of concession stand and restrooms at Heritage Softball Complex, Bode Sports Complex, Hyde Park, Swimming Pools, Aquatic Center and various ball fields. As well as performing duties associated with Indoor Ice Arena.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for food and drink preparation and serving.
  • Assists in set-up and clean-up of concession stand and the surrounding vicinity, to include but not limited to, inside the concession stand, restrooms and immediate open areas around concession.
  • Operates cash register, receives and fills food and beverage orders.
  • Responsible for handling cash received and change for products sold.
  • Serves alcoholic beverages at concessions where alcohol is served (employee must be of age to do so).
  • Responsible for verifying customer s age to confirm legal age to purchase alcohol.
  • Assists in re-stocking concessions stands when assigned by Supervisor.
  • Performs duty as gatekeeper for the collection of admission fees to Complex s when needed.
  • Acts as skate guards, ticket booth and skate rental attendants in the Ice Arena.
  • Assists in enforcing rules and policies of Bode Sports Complex, Heritage Park Softball Complex, swimming pools, Aquatic Park and various ball fields.
Other Duties And Responsibilities

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
  • Must be available to work irregular hours and at various intervals, including late evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • When hired must be prepared to work odd hours and in extreme weather.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of cash register operations and ability to accept money and disburse correct change to customers.
  • Ability to deal effectively with customers where high volume of transactions occur in a relatively short period of time.
  • Some experience in food handling and preparation, operation of cash register and handling of alcoholic beverages.
  • Ability to or ability to learn how to ice and in-line skate.
  • Must have basic knowledge of basketball, softball and ice & roller hockey.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing between 10 to 50 pounds.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to handle alcoholic beverages.
Material and Equipment Directly Used

Uses a variety of equipment included, but not limited to, cash register, calculator and food preparation equipment such as coffee maker, grills, fryers and microwaves. Uses a variety of equipment for light cleaning purposes such as mops, brooms and other general cleaning supplies. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements

Work is primarily performed in a sheltered concession building under a range of extreme weather conditions such as cold, heat, wind and rain. Requires physical activity such as standing, lifting and other activities normally required in the performance of gatekeeping and concession operations. Frequently lifts and carry objects weighting 10 to 50 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes.

Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. In concessions serving alcoholic beverages it is preferred for employees to be 21 years of age.

All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.

Any job offer made by the City is contingent upon the applicant passing the drug screening and background check.
