Locksmith I (Position Title Locksmith I Job Description)
The Locksmith for Missouri Western State University provides safe and working doors, closers, handicap openers, gates, and electronic access throughout the campus, and issues and retrieves keys for all key‐carrying employees and students.

Essential Duties- Ensure all campus doors, closers, handicap openers, handles, and locks are in good working order.
- Ensure that locks to secure campus buildings when they are closed are maintained and in good working order.
- Issue and retrieve all employee and student keys, processing the related paperwork and inputting data as necessary for maintaining inventory.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of key cutting and lock pinning procedures for several brands.
- Good knowledge of general locksmith practices and procedures.
- Ability to use basic computer programs and software.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One to three years of experience working in a locksmith role.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience with electronic key systems.
- Requires the ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and reach.
- Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
- Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
- Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
- Must have finger dexterity and hand‑eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Overtime and essential demands on time as commonly associated with this position (evening/weekends/essential personnel on occasion).
- Will generally work indoors.
- Will occasionally be required to work outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
- Exposed to the intense noise of equipment, machinery, and tools.
- Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, oils, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and working at height.
- May, on rare occasions, be exposed to hazardous driving conditions.
M-F 7:00 am–3:30 pm
