Role Description The Safety Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in St Joseph, MO, responsible for supporting and improving workplace health and safety across the facility. This role includes conducting regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and audits to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Safety Specialist coordinates and delivers safety training, maintains safety records, investigates accidents and near-misses, and recommends corrective and preventive actions.

The role also involves collaborating with operations, maintenance, and leadership to integrate safety best practices into daily processes, supporting a strong safety culture and continuous improvement in environmental health and occupational safety.
Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Health & Safety and Occupational Health principles, with the ability to apply them in a manufacturing or food-processing environment.
  • Experience in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) programs, including regulatory compliance, risk assessments, and safety program implementation.
  • Skills in Safety Training, including developing and delivering clear, engaging training sessions for diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability in Accident Investigation, root-cause analysis, and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other relevant safety regulations; prior experience in meat processing, food production, or industrial settings is beneficial.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout production areas and use standard safety equipment; willingness to work in varied temperature environments.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related field preferred; relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, EHS) are an advantage.
