JOB SUMMARY

Provides direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complete admitting and shift assessments on assigned patients, including behaviors, accurately and within the time-frame set in policy and procedures.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills and judgement to analyze patient assessment data and notify the physician of changes in condition.
  • Participate in the development, review and evaluation of multidisciplinary treatment plans as per policies and procedures.
  • Document all nursing care given and adhere to nursing standards and ministry policies and procedures.
  • Consistently and accurately implement and record physicians orders.
  • Assess and monitor patients and the environment for safety within the unit.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and supervise care delivered by LPNs and techs.
  • Educate patients and families based on assessed needs and document education provided in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Apply the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient’s age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
  • Demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model. Use the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to current and evolving health and nursing needs.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent education for licensing.
EXPERIENCE
  • No experience required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) – Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State.
