Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Licensed to provide basic nursing care, a CNA assists residents with daily living activities and personal hygiene in accordance with accepted standards of practice and state and federal regulations.

• Provides residents’ personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.
• Assists with activities of daily living by serving meals, feeding residents as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning residents.
• Assists with lifting, positioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc., in keeping with specific resident safety needs; assists residents in preparation for and transporting to appointments, activities and social programs.
• Participates in meal service including serving, clearing, and cleaning the dining room; ensures that residents are positioned appropriately for meals; ensures that appropriate utensils are within reach of residents; serves food trays and assists with feeding as indicated; delivers and documents all a.m., p.m., and bedtime snacks and supplements; provides hydration to all residents according to center policy.
• Charts progress notes in an informative, factual manner that reflects the care administered as well as the residents’ response to care.
