Job Overview
Day Stocker – Grocery Department at Hy‑Vee. This role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service through unloading product, stocking shelves, rotating inventory, and ensuring a tidy and welcoming store environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Unloads trucks, opens containers, stocks shelves, runs overstock on risers, and rotates product.
- Monitors for mis‑picked items, reviews product outs and wrong deliveries.
- Organizes stock for greatest efficiency; cleans and restocks damaged items.
- Tags shelves with overstock in backroom and understock drawers.
- Reports all new or different items to the scanning coordinator for system input.
- Provides friendly customer service by greeting, smiling, and addressing customers by name.
- Assists customers with locating products, loading/unloading heavy items, and handling other requests.
- Answers telephone promptly and provides helpful service to callers.
- Works with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Maintains personal hygiene and dress in accordance with department and company guidelines.
- Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
- Operates register for customer purchases.
- Trains new day stockers in job duties.
- Performs outside maintenance: shovels sidewalk, spreads ice melt, picks up and returns carts.
- Stocks supplies, cigarettes, front‑end sacks, and delivers supplies to departments.
- Cleans registers, restrooms, breakroom, backroom, sweeps and mops floors, and tends to supply needs.
- Orders merchandise and supplies as needed.
- Assists in other areas of store as required.
- Performs other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
Must be able to perform heavy work, exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Required activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working ConditionsExposed to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazard, chemicals/solvents daily, temperature extremes, and potential electrical shock.
Equipment UsedPower jack, compactor, C.A.R.S. system, check register, forklift, scales, Tomra machines, two‑wheeler, and box cutter.
Financial ResponsibilityResponsible for supplies, stock, and for checking the cooler.
