Sales Representative, Business Development, Outside Sales
Position Summary
The Sales Representative is responsible for selling company products and services within an assigned territory by developing leads, acquiring new customers, and strengthening relationships with existing accounts. This role requires a strong understanding of the company’s offerings and the ability to communicate their value effectively to customers in the industrial and manufacturing sectors. This Sales Representative is a field based position covering the Southern Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma territory, with regular visits and travel.
A company vehicle is provided.
- The Sales Representative will identify and research prospective customers by leveraging diverse market‑intelligence sources to build a strong pipeline of qualified sales opportunities.
- Engage regularly with customers across the assigned territory to strengthen relationships, understand needs, and grow the business.
- Conduct product demonstrations to highlight key features and support the sales process.
- Issue pricing, credit terms, and sales contracts, and assist with credit applications and past‑due account collections.
- Provide customers with accurate delivery estimate or service completion timelines based on production schedules and resource availability.
- Develop relationships with purchasing and other key decision makers to support account growth and retention.
- Deliver product specific instruction and coordinate customer onboarding and training to ensure effective use of products and services.
- Investigate and resolve delivery or service issues to maintain customer satisfaction.
- Consistently meet or exceed assigned sales quotas through effective territory and account management.
- Promote and sell the Merchandising System and related products, demonstrating features and value to customers.
- May represent the company at state and regional trade shows to generate leads and strengthen customer relationships.
- Prepare accurate reports on sales activities, business transactions, and expense submissions.
- Enter and maintain customer and sales data in the CRM or relevant systems to ensure data accuracy and visibility.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, Engineering, or related field.
- 6+ years progressive business experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Regular travel for sales meetings within the assigned territory (Southern Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma).
- High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook and Internet applications.
- Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem‑solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), and planning skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, and reasoning).
- Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients.
- Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast‑paced and deadline‑oriented environment.
- Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
- Self‑motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and see.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually low or moderate.
