LAB TECHNICIAN
:
This position is the mid-skilled worker in the lab. Has successfully completed job training and demonstrated the ability to perform routine quality control testing.
Shift and
Hours:
3rd shift 10pm - 6:30am Monday - Friday
Training: 1st shift for 4 weeks
Pay: $24.52 per hour
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Required): Education:
High School equivalent (GED) and some college level coursework and lab work in general, analytical, and/or organic chemistry.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years in a commercial laboratory performing physical testing, HPLC/GC chemical analysis, and ICP nutrient analysis (preferred).
Skills: Ability to perform higher-level mathematical calculations, good eye/hand coordination, solid understanding of chemistry concepts, effective communication, teamwork, chemical analysis using HPLC and GC, and nutrient analysis with ICP instrumentation (preferred).
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Complexity of Duties:
Requires interpreting test results for accuracy, credibility, and compliance with specifications, and performing simple problem-solving tasks.
Environment: Primarily laboratory work; requires good physical, visual, and mental attention. Special safety equipment may be required for entry into hazardous manufacturing areas. Waste Disposal:
Isolation, remediation, and containerizing RCRA hazardous waste under supervision.
- Analytical Gravimetric balance operation
- Moisture analysis (Karl Fisher & moisture balance)
- pH operation and calibration
- Density measurement
- Viscometer measurement
- Particle size analysis
- Wet and dry screen analysis
- Suspension and emulsion testing
- Gas Chromatography (GC) and Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) – basic operation, sample preparation, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and method setup
- Recognition and resolution of analysis problems with corrective actions
- Basic environmental testing
- Leadership and training of lower-level technicians
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
(Preferred): Knowledge of basic ICP operation including sample preparation and analysis.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (Preferred): Two years of college chemistry or a degree in a related science field. Combination of education and experience will be considered.
