Certified Peer Support Specialist​/CPSS

Job Responsibilities

• Provide essential expertise and consultation to the interdisciplinary healthcare team, promoting a culture where each individual’s perspectives and preferences are respected and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self‑help activities.
• Serve as an advocate for clients, fostering recovery dialogue and self‑help sessions.
• Meet with clients to offer advice and support in accordance with their treatment plan.
• Assist in peer support groups with assigned consumers on a regular basis.
• Support or assist consumers in daily decision‑making and resolution of minor problems.
• Assist clients by locating resources, advising on processes, encouraging follow‑through on proposed resolutions, and identifying social activities.
• Accompany clients to meetings and community group gatherings to advocate for their needs and lead recovery dialogues.
• Encourage clients’ participation in community activities to develop healthy relationships.
• Observe behavior and evidence of general well‑being, discussing observations with clients.
• Model effective coping and self‑help techniques for individuals or groups.
• Provide advice on empowerment skills and successful community living.
• Inform clients about community resources and how to use them, and offer information to consumers and families on specific topics as assigned.

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• One year of experience working with persons who have intellectual, developmental disabilities, or mental health and/or substance use challenges.
• Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or one continuous year as a current or former recipient of treatment (including mental health/substance abuse treatment or diagnosis) and eligibility for certification by the governing agency.
• Complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of training specific to the required components of the service definition, including crisis response, within the first ninety (90) days of employment.
• Valid driver’s license and automotive insurance.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• CPR, first aid, NCI, and/or role‑related certification is a plus.
