SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance of the Site Supervisor and direction of the Child Care Program Coordinator, the Child Care Educator is responsible for implementing and coordinating the daily activities of the support staff and program participants by performing such duties as planning and implementing lesson plans, curriculum, and field trips; monitoring and supervising student behaviors and child safety; maintaining program records; providing coordination to child care assistants and group leaders;

informing and communicating with programs staff, other teachers, parents, site supervisor, program coordinator, and building administrators concerning program issues, events, and/or student issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates age & developmentally appropriate curriculum lessons, activities, and events that meet the program's curriculum and guidelines and facilitate physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development.
  • Plans weekly theses, writes lesson plans and prepares for art, science, language & literacy lessons, music, writing, or cooking projects.
  • Plans monthly calendars and sends out newsletters to parents regarding activities and plans.
  • Monitors program activities to assure the safety of kids and a proper environment in which to learn and play.
  • Plans and implements field trips throughout the year.
  • Participates in and interacts with children and families in the program.
  • Teaches, plays, and interacts with children throughout the day.
  • Supervises and engages children in groups or one-on-one and teaches social, recreational, and conflict resolution skills through games, role-playing, and program events/activities.
  • Coordinates and monitors program activities and support staff assigned to the program.
  • Coaches, instructs, trains, and monitors staff activities, interactions, and activities.
  • Provides daily coordination in performing daily assignments and their activities in behavioral management, daily scheduling/activities, and communications with students and parents.
  • Communicate with parents concerning program activities, child progress, and child-related or program issues and/or concerns in coordination with the Site Supervisor, Program Coordinator, and other staff.
  • Addresses and discusses issues with parents over the phone, in writing, or in-person to discuss child progress, problems, concerns, or issues.
  • Discusses child development issues and provides information, guidance, or suggestions.
  • Works with other program staff to deal with disciplinary or behavioral issues.
  • Communicates with staff, parents, and teachers to assure that kids are on task with school homework and that time is provided for working on homework assignments.
  • Writes monthly newsletters to keep parents informed of program activities, events, and information about the program(s).
  • Maintains and keeps program records and files.
  • Maintains class rosters, parent contact sheets, emergency numbers, pickup and drop-off times, release day contacts, and parent calendars.
  • Maintains attendance sheets.
  • Collects participant health forms.
  • Collaborates with the Site Supervisor and/or Program Coordinator to discuss and address program needs, events, or issues.
  • Purchases supplies and materials needed for the classroom.
  • Attends training sessions, workshops, seminars, etc., to keep skills, certifications, and knowledge current.
  • Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
