Primary Responsibilities
The primary duties of a Distribution Project Engineer include preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports and designs for distribution overhead and underground lines, performing load flow analysis, contingency analysis, and coordination studies. This Engineer will be seen as the Lead Engineer for projects, and the subject matter expert in their area of expertise. They will create full design packages across many different projects:
Infrastructure, Renewables, Industrial, etc. They will also be expected to mentor newer EITs to grow their careers and capabilities.
- Coordinate the work of the power design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project.
- Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
- Coordinate workload to complete the deliverable on schedule.
- Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
- Review project documents for areas of conflict with other disciplines.
- Write and edit project specifications.
- Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information (RFIs), change orders (COs), and take responsibility to incorporate agreed‑upon changes into the project documents.
- Provide construction contract administration as needed.
- Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators or Designers, or BIM Technicians as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Master’s degree in engineering or MBA.
- Preference given to candidates local to the Madison/Milwaukee, WI or Minneapolis, MN area.
- Some travel may be required.
- Medium voltage design and power system study analysis experience.
- Part of a local or national organization within the industry.
- Previous presentation or white paper experience.
- Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm or electrical utility.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in project execution within the Power Sector Market.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license).
- Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit).

The salary range in Minnesota is $85,260 – $121,800.
