Job Description & How to Apply Below
Burds & Kuntz is a highly collaborative, client-focused CPA firm that works with complex, high-level clients. Unlike many firms, we maintain a curated client base, allowing our team to focus on meaningful, high-impact tax work rather than high-volume, low-complexity returns.
This role offers a unique blend of public accounting tax experience with exposure to private company environments, including acting as an extension of a client’s internal tax function.
If you're looking for strong mentorship, meaningful client exposure, and consistent work year-round (not just during busy season), this is a great opportunity to grow your career in public accounting.
What You’ll Do- Prepare and support tax compliance work for corporations, partnerships, and individuals
- Work heavily on multi-state tax filings, including supporting large corporate clients filing across multiple jurisdictions
- Assist with complex tax returns (corporate and pass-through entities, including S-Corps and partnerships)
- Analyze financial data and apply strong accounting fundamentals to support tax filings
- Collaborate with team members to divide and manage large client engagements (ex: splitting multi-state filings across team members)
- Gain exposure to year-round tax work, including extensions (Sept 15/Oct 15 deadlines)
- Participate in tax planning and year-end strategy work for ongoing clients
- Work closely with mentors (Tax Directors) and receive regular coaching and feedback
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 0–3 years of experience in tax (public accounting experience or relevant internship preferred)
- Basic understanding of:
- Tax compliance and preparation
- Corporate, partnership, or individual returns
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Strong communication skills and willingness to ask questions
- Interest in pursuing a career in public accounting tax
- Experience in a public accounting firm environment
- Exposure to:
- Corporate tax returns
- Partnership or S-Corp filings
- Progress toward CPA (or clear intent to pursue)
- For experienced candidates (2–3 years): ideally started or passed portions of the CPA exam
- Experience with multi-state tax filings or complex tax engagements
- Comfort working with larger, more sophisticated clients
- Desire for long-term career growth in public accounting (or strong long-term contributor mindset)
- Consistent year-round work
- Lower busy-season hours (~50/week)
- Mentorship and coaching model
- High-quality client exposure
