Position Summary

Novogradac & Company LLP is searching for a Tax Manager to join our fast‑growing firm. The Tax Manager will manage tax assignments as designated by the Principal or Partner and will supervise and mentor Staff and Senior Accountants. The role requires minimal supervision and a focus on independent problem solving, client relationship development, and office profitability. Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be available depending on business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Assume primary responsibility for client engagements, including planning, staffing, timing, technical issues, and related decisions.
  • Oversee completion of engagements, identify and resolve problem areas with minimal assistance.
  • Conduct thorough engagement reviews.
  • Supervise and mentor Supervisors, Senior Accountants and Staff, guiding them in technical areas, identifying professional development opportunities, and maintaining a respectful team atmosphere.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations for assigned staff and manage employee performance conversations.
  • Assist Principals and Partners in identifying, meeting with, and pursuing new clients.
  • Translate technical knowledge into high‑value opportunities for firm clients.
  • Promote the firm’s image through conference panels, firm publications, recruiting events, in‑house and client trainings, and other outreach activities.
  • Enhance the Novogradac brand by fostering collegial relationships with all Partners, employees, clients, and prospects.
  • Develop, strengthen, and grow client relationships through professionalism, responsiveness, and a service‑oriented approach.
  • Enhance skills in industry focus areas by seeking out and completing training courses.
  • Increase office profitability by managing your time and the time of Staff and Senior Accountants efficiently, contributing ideas and adding value.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Background and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (advanced degree preferred) and 3–7+ years of experience in public accounting or a comparable mix of education and work experience.
  • CPA license required.
  • Expert understanding of accounting and tax rules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and professional judgment.
  • Accurate, time‑efficient work with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and follow‑through skills.
  • Ability to prioritize a fast‑paced, varied workload and manage concurrent priorities.
  • Openness to constructive feedback and ability to make adjustments.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to foster a productive, team‑oriented environment.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Excel) and report‑writing tools.
  • Professional demeanor with coworkers and clients.
  • Confidence of the existing Partner group.
  • Ability to meet internal firm deadlines (time entry, billing, etc.).
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed and travel domestically if required.
  • Experience in affordable housing, low‑income housing tax credits, opportunity zones, renewable energy tax credits, historical tax credits, HUD programs, new markets tax credits, real estate, developers, partnerships, housing authority, public housing authority, community development financial institutions, community development entity certification applications, property compliance, nonprofit, single audit, uniform guidance, A‑133, forecasting, cost segregation, year‑15 exit, tax‑exempt bond and HOME programs (helpful but not mandatory).
