Position Summary
The Fund Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the full accounting cycle for multiple PE and real estate fund vehicles, including capital call and distribution processing, investor allocations, financial statement preparation, and coordination with fund administrators, auditors, and tax preparers. This role requires strong technical fund accounting knowledge and the ability to manage complex, multi-entity structures.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee fund-level accounting for multiple private equity and real estate fund entities, including fund-of-funds and co-investment vehicles
- Manage capital call and distribution calculations, investor allocations, and waterfall calculations in accordance with fund governing documents
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements for funds, including footnote disclosures, in accordance with GAAP
- Calculate and review management fees, carried interest/promote calculations, and fund expense allocations
- Oversee investor reporting, including capital account statements, quarterly reports, and responses to investor inquiries
- Coordinate with third-party fund administrators, if applicable, to ensure accurate and timely fund accounting and reporting
- Manage relationships with external auditors and tax preparers, supporting annual audits and K-1 preparation for fund investors
- Review and oversee accounting for underlying real estate investments and portfolio companies, including consolidation and equity method accounting as applicable
- Monitor fund compliance with partnership/LLC agreements, credit facility covenants, and regulatory requirements
- Assist with fund formation, closings, and structuring of new investment vehicles
- Manage, mentor, and develop fund accounting staff, providing coaching and reviewing their work
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline fund accounting and reporting workflows
- Support ad hoc analysis and reporting requests from fund principals, investors, and senior leadership
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred
- 4-7+ years of progressive fund accounting experience, with direct experience in private equity and/or real estate fund structures
- Strong understanding of partnership accounting, waterfall/carried interest calculations, and capital account maintenance
- Experience working with fund administrators and coordinating multi-entity, multi-fund structures
- Knowledge of GAAP as it relates to investment companies, real estate, and equity method accounting
- Proficiency in fund accounting software (Investran, eFront, Yardi Investment Management, or similar) strongly preferred
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple funds, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships simultaneously
- Experience with both private equity and real estate fund structures preferred
- Prior experience managing or mentoring a team of fund accountants
- Familiarity with investor portals and reporting platforms
- Experience supporting fund audits, K-1 preparation, and regulatory filings (Form PF, if applicable)
