MATERIALS ASSISTANT TPT

Temporary – St. Louis, MO, US

Salary Range: $15.00 – $15.00 Hourly

St. Louis Public Library’s Julia Davis Branch is seeking a part‑time Materials Assistant. The role supports library operations in a renovated branch and encourages customer interaction.

• Shelve all library materials in proper locations according to priority and Dewey Decimal Classification.
• Straighten and maintain shelf appearance for consistency and attractiveness.
• Review placement to identify shelving errors and correct them.
• Search for abandoned materials to add to the book truck or proper location.
• Assist customers with location questions.
• Maintain assigned sections through regular shelf‑reading and shifting.
• Complete pull‑item lists and retrieve materials as assigned.
• Assist in processing holds and incoming deliveries.
• Communicate areas of concern to supervisors for further maintenance.
• Package items into envelopes and/or bins for outgoing delivery.
• Monitor book drop area for material returns.

• Ability to arrange items in a specific order according to a set of rules.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledgeable about the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
• Skilled at recognizing differences in detail.
• Ability to learn Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail).
• No prior experience or training required; previous library volunteer experience is a plus.

• Competitive starting pay of $15.00 per hour.
• 12 hours per week; schedule subject to change.
