Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in eight (8) cities across the U.S., is in search of a full-time non-exempt Legal Administrative Assistant Trainee - Litigation to join its St. Louis office. This position will be mentored by an experienced member of our legal administrative support team and provided with training to ultimately advance to a Legal Administrative Assistant position. This position requires in office support and may become eligible for a hybrid work schedule after an extended training period.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and edit legal documents, correspondence and reports from rough draft form.
  • Provide administrative support to assigned attorneys, such as calendaring, preparing letters and emails, coordinating travel arrangements and managing attorney contact and client lists.
  • Input invoices and expense reports in the Firm’s expense management and invoice platform.
  • Assist in requesting conflict of interest reports with the appropriate department and opening new clients and/or matters through the Firm’s software program.
  • Prepare client binders for the practice area to which assigned, and prepare client documents with signing instructions, where appropriate.
  • Perform overflow assistance to attorneys and legal support staff in a team environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office in a legal environment to include Outlook, Word and Excel and other software required.
  • Ability to utilize independent thinking skills, with minimal direction and with an ability to offer creative solutions to problems.
  • Must have ability to produce work of high quality, which is accurate, complete and free of errors. Ability to proof and perform minor editing (e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling) of routine legal correspondence and legal case matters. Ability to perform non-complex arithmetic calculations when verifying calculations on forms and documents; maintain records and filing systems at a level normally acquired through completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Must foster a collaborative team approach and possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Required to use tact and diplomacy when interacting with individuals across all levels of the Firm.
  • Must exhibit a commitment to sharing knowledge and mentoring others on Firm-related technology applications and practice specific processes.
  • Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and display strong time management skills with a proactive approach.
  • Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered while demonstrating ability to acclimate to change.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
Experience And Education Qualifications
  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working in an administrative capacity required.
  • Prior experience which required excellent organizational and communication skills preferred.
