Materials Assistant
St. Louis Public Library's Divoll Branch is seeking a Materials Assistant. The Library values the talents and perspectives that a diverse workforce brings and how this positively impacts our services and customer base. We seek people who understand these values to join our team.
Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library, providing vital services to the people of St. Louis. This role requires someone who is comfortable working with the public and is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service.
In this role you will:
- Shelve and straighten Library materials
- Maintain assigned sections through regular shelf-reading and shifting.
- Assist in processing incoming and outgoing deliveries.
- Monitor book drop area for material returns.
- Complete customer request lists and retrieve materials as assigned.
You will need to be:
- Able to arrange items in a certain order according to a specific set of rules.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Able to learn Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail)
You will need to have:
- No prior experience or training, however, previous library volunteer experience is a plus.
Benefits include:
- Pay rate starting at $15.00 per hour
- Hours for this position are:
Mon., Wed., Fri., 12:15-5:15, 15 hours per week, hours subject to change.
About Schlafly Library:
The Divoll Branch first opened at 1100 Farrar Street in 1910. The library later moved to its present location at 4234 North Grand Boulevard, opening in 1967 and remodeled in 1998.

About the neighborhood:
The Divoll Branch, located in the Fairground Neighborhood, was named in honor of Ira Divoll, the "Father of the St. Louis Public Library." The Divoll Branch is located near the Grand Avenue Water Tower, which was built in 1870. Also called "The White Water Tower," it is the tallest free-standing Corinthian column in the world. The Divoll Branch of the St.
Louis Public Library has served as a community anchor for residents and meeting place for community groups for generations of neighbors.
