What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Services Team in St. Louis, MO. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our St. Louis, MO office.

This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Construction Inspector who thrives in a collaborative team environment. The selected candidate will inspect and oversee construction work to ensure results, procedures, and materials comply with plans and specifications. The candidate will serve as a daily point of contact with clients and contractors, managing all aspects of a project including construction observations, material testing, and maintaining documentation.

• Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts.
• Verify levels, alignment, and elevation of installations.
• Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures followed, and materials used conform to specifications.
• Prepare samples of materials for laboratory testing.
• Examine workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approve installation.
• Interpret plans and specifications for contractor and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
• Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods, develop pay estimates and change orders.
• Maintain daily log of construction and inspection activities and compare progress reports.
• Monitor several types of work activity, however not simultaneously.
• Maintain construction safety practices and work methods for compliance.
• Manage documents using electronic platforms such as AASHTOWare, e-Builder, or Transport.

• High school diploma.
• 0–4 years of construction inspection experience.
• Experience in construction, inspection, material testing, or transportation engineering for highway projects – structures on state MODOT, municipal, or other municipal projects.
• A safety‑first mindset.
• Strong writing, listening, and communication skills.

• ACI Field and/or Strength, Troxler or similar state MODOT certification recommended, but not required.
• Ability to work collaboratively with peers, clients, and contractors to solve problems and conflicts.
• Ability and desire to lead.

The salary range for this role is $20.00 – $29.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
