What You Will Do
GFT is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Services Team in St. Louis, MO. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our St. Louis, MO office.

Key ResponsibilitiesThis is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Construction Inspector who thrives in a collaborative team environment. The selected candidate will inspect and oversee construction work to ensure results, procedures, and materials comply with plans and specifications. The candidate will serve as a daily point of contact with clients and contractors, managing all aspects of a project including construction observations, material testing, and maintaining documentation.
- Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts.
- Verify levels, alignment, and elevation of installations.
- Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures followed, and materials used conform to specifications.
- Prepare samples of materials for laboratory testing.
- Examine workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approve installation.
- Interpret plans and specifications for contractor and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
- Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods, develop pay estimates and change orders.
- Maintain daily log of construction and inspection activities and compare progress reports.
- Monitor several types of work activity, however not simultaneously.
- Maintain construction safety practices and work methods for compliance.
- Manage documents using electronic platforms such as AASHTOWare, e-Builder, or Transport.
- High school diploma.
- 0–4 years of construction inspection experience.
- Experience in construction, inspection, material testing, or transportation engineering for highway projects – structures on state MODOT, municipal, or other municipal projects.
- A safety‑first mindset.
- Strong writing, listening, and communication skills.
- ACI Field and/or Strength, Troxler or similar state MODOT certification recommended, but not required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with peers, clients, and contractors to solve problems and conflicts.
- Ability and desire to lead.
The salary range for this role is $20.00 – $29.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
