The Role We Want You For

The Senior Structural Designer will be working with in-house Development, Architecture, and Construction teams to provide Structural Design and Quality Assurance on industrial (distribution, manufacturing, food and beverage, and cold storage) projects for our nationwide clients. This role is for the Kansas City or St. Louis metro area and is an on-site position.

Scope of Responsibility

The Senior Designer is responsible for overseeing the project drawing creation on simple to complex projects of all sizes. The Senior Designer has a thorough understanding of the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases. The Senior Designer possesses the ability to coordinate with internal and external parties when asked, manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities, and direct the work of others.

The Senior Designer may work independently or at the direction of the BIM Office Lead or BIM Manager. The Senior Designer is responsible for directing and managing the workflows and execution of design support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals.

This individual should have high quality experience generating and reviewing all deliverables covered under previous levels and should be able to provide oversight to others as required. This individual has responsibility to oversee the production of deliverables or lead activities which require more experience, deeper understanding or involve more complexity.

This person shall have an understanding of community and shall foster the Clayco traits.

The Specifics of the Role

• Proficient in Revit Structures
• Ability to use Navisworks proficiently
• Able to lead others in a fair and unbiased manner
• Creates conceptual structural models based on verbal direction or rough sketches from engineers or other designers. Incorporates standard notes and details for use in the construction documents.
• Manages and incorporates electronic or paper redlines from the Structural Engineer using established workflows.
• Takes complete ownership of their portion of the structural scope, reliably working to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
• Highly focused on quality, ensuring conformance with established structural standards, project standards, and project delivery processes.
• Highly proficient in checking own work and coordinating work with related disciplines to avoid clashes.
• Able to mentor junior designers by assisting with finding answers to technical questions and concerns.
• Proactive in advancing workflows, systems, and tools within their own discipline, including design automation skills. Embraces emerging technologies.
• Able to provide quality reviews of models and documents prepared by others to assure design and project standards are met.
• Creates families and fully utilizes the live functions available in the platform to maintain intelligent designs.
• Understands construction practices and provides constructability feedback to the project team when the design is incomplete or not constructible.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or similar technical degree. (or 6+ years of experience utilizing BIM software)
• 6-10 years of experience required, in an operating company or design firm setting. A mixture of design firm, operating company or construction related experience (within the market sector) are desirable.
