Position Overview
SSM Health y's Hospital - St. Louis is seeking a Core Faculty (CF) Internal Medicine Physician to join its ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program. This position combines outpatient clinical practice with a dedicated commitment to graduate medical education, resident mentorship, and program leadership.
The Core Faculty member will work closely with the Program Director to support curriculum development, resident assessment, recruitment, and scholarly activity while maintaining a robust clinical presence.
Qualifications & Credentialing- MD or DO degree
- ABIM board-certified or board-eligible with certification expected within 2 years
- Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Missouri
- Demonstrated interest in academic medicine, teaching, and resident development
- 0.1 FTE (10%):
Administrative and educational responsibilities for the residency program, as delegated by the Program Director - 0.9 FTE (90%):
Clinical practice
- Primary clinical assignment is outpatient Internal Medicine and Transitional Care Clinics
- Supervision of 100% of resident patient encounters
, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.
-5:00 p.m. - Oversight includes:
- Resident documentation
- Orders
- Plans of care
- An inpatient clinical component may be added in the future based on program needs and Core Faculty composition
Core Faculty members are expected to play a significant role in the educational mission of the program, including:
- Development, implementation, and assessment of one or more major curricular components (e.g., patient safety, quality improvement, health disparities, or core didactics)
- Design and implementation of resident assessment strategies aligned with ACGME competencies
- Participation in and delivery of educational activities, including didactics, simulation, and skills labs
- Active participation in resident recruitment, interview, and selection
, with a commitment to diversity - Advising, mentoring, and coaching residents throughout training
- Membership on the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC)
- Participation in the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC), including implementation and analysis of action plans
- Oversight and support of resident:
- Quality improvement and patient safety projects
- Scholarly activity, including research, posters, presentations, and publications
- Oversight of faculty development within the residency program
- Design and implementation of simulation and standardized patient experiences
- Development and oversight of resident remediation and performance improvement plans
- Leadership of program initiatives focused on resident and faculty well-being
Core Faculty members are expected to meet the following benchmarks:
- Communication of expectations to residents at the start of each clinic block with follow-up on goals and accountability (

) - Comprehensive EHR attestations with oversight of resident notes, orders, and care plans (
80% expectation
) - Completion of all formative resident evaluations in the New Innovations platform with 1:1 in-person feedback (
100% expectation
) - Participation in:
- Quarterly faculty meetings (

80%) - ACGME Program Faculty Survey (

) - Annual Faculty Retreat (
once every 2 years
)
- Quarterly faculty meetings (

- Participation in resident recruitment activities when requested by the Program Director (

- 1-2 residents per PGY level
- Minimum of one in-person mentoring session per quarter (

- Design and oversight of individualized learning plans and remediation efforts
- Scholarly output expectations:
- At least one quality improvement or research project per year
- Support dissemination through presentations, posters, or peer reviewed publications
- Teaching expectations:
- Minimum of three noon conference presentations per academic year
- Participation in noon conference case discussions, including Intern Case Report (
