This role is essential to enhancing the student experience by ensuring access and supporting academic success for students registered with Student Accessibility. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with students with disabilities, maintains professionalism and confidentiality, and brings a data-informed, student-centered approach to building support systems.
- Student Accommodation and Support Services
- Conduct intake meetings, manage ongoing communication across multiple platforms, and review documentation to determine individualized accommodations for students in academic, housing, dining, temporary, and campus life settings.
- Provide support for Pregnancy and Parenting accommodations.
- Partner with students, families, the Director, and external providers to ensure accommodations are reasonable and appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
- Arrange assistive technologies, alternate-format course materials, and other tools to support student needs.
- Guide students through the interactive process and equip them with effective self-advocacy and success strategies.
- Community Engagement and Collaborative Programming
- Lead educational and wellness initiatives and campus-wide programming, including coordinating accessibility programs and events.
- Co-chair the annual Tunnel of Consciousness and facilitate training for student leaders (RAs, Peer Tutors).
- Collaborate with clubs/organizations and campus partners to co-sponsor programs.
- Serve as a student organization advisor and participate in committees to foster a culture of access and opportunity.
- Work with Life Coaches, Online Student Success Coaches, Student Life Staff, the Center for Learning and Teaching, facilities, and faculty to ensure cohesive support for students with disabilities.
- Accessibility Administrative & Testing Support
- Lead Testing Center operations, including organizing, proctoring, and monitoring exams for students with accommodations, make-up tests, and CLEP exams.
- Develop, implement, and assess the student worker program, including hiring, training, and evaluating Access Assistants and Accessibility Advocates.
- Provide guidance on accessible instruction, legal compliance, and innovative practices to streamline testing operations.
- Foster strong relationships with faculty and students to ensure effective communication and a seamless testing experience.
- Operations & Office Coverage
- Provide timely and exceptional support for division operations and events, with flexibility during testing periods.
- Collaboratively adjust office hours (7:00 AM–5:30 PM) with the other Coordinator to ensure continuous support.
- Some evenings and weekends may be required based on division and student needs, scheduled separately from regular shifts.
- Student Supervision
- Supervise and mentor student workers, graduate assistants, volunteers, and interns, ensuring they are properly trained, supported, and have clear objectives related to accessibility and wellness.
- Required Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
- Familiarity with ADA Law, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, FERPA, and accommodations, or a strong willingness to learn these policies and procedures.
- Understanding of accessibility best practices, health and wellness standards, and confidentiality requirements.
- Excellent customer service, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to plan and execute programs effectively.
- Proficiency in organizing and analyzing data, with a collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
- Cultural humility, empathy, and a commitment to inclusivity and access for all individuals.
- Required Formal Education
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Psychology, Sociology, Communications, Social Work, Education, Human Resources, Disability Studies, or a related field.
- Some evenings and weekends are required for events and testing periods.
