Affton High School

DETAILS: 9 ½-month professional position (1.0 FTE) for the 2026-27 school year, with paid sick and personal leave. District-provided benefits package that includes health, dental, life and vision insurance.

COMPENSATION:
Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Teacher Salary Schedule for the 2026-27 school year. Initial placement will be set on the current Teacher Salary Schedule until the new Teacher Salary Schedule is established. Placement is determined by education and experience in accordance with board policy.

JOB SUMMARY:

Utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. This school counselor position will be serving students in grades 9-12.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master's degree is required, with Counseling emphasis

* Appropriate Missouri School Counseling and/or Student Services certification (Counselor 9-12, or K-12) is required

* Prior teaching experience and secondary Missouri teaching certification is preferred

* Prior school counselor experience is preferred

* The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, the community and other target populations is required

* The ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and District is required

* The ability to keep current with changing trends, procedures, and laws to meet the essential duties of a school counselor is required

* The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form is required

* The ability to listen well and take initiative to solve problems is required

* Strong organizational skills and self-motivation are required

* The ability to work with a multi-ethnic, multicultural student population is required

* The ability to remain flexible and positive with the demands and assignments of the job without losing sight of the mission, task or assignment is required

* The ability to work independently, use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in stressful situations is required

* The ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and interact positively with students, staff, administration, and the community is required

* The ability to work as a team player, communicate and collaborate with administration, staff and other professionals is required

* The willingness to learn new material and attend professional development, conferences and workshops is required
