School Counseling Certification is required.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:

High School Counselor

Plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements the district's counseling programs to effectively meet the needs of students in an educational environment. Specifically supports college and career readiness initiatives and efforts.

REPORTS TO:

Principal

EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:

* Responsible for implementing the district's approved counseling curriculum in assigned building(s), and acts as a resource person for the infusion of guidance learning activities into the curricula.

* Guides individuals and groups of students through the development of educational and career plans.

* Assists and/or facilitates state assessments.

* Actively secures and provides resources for students related to college and career readiness.

* Counsels small groups and individual students through the development of educational and career plans and by providing and participating in orientations programs for students and parents.

* Consults with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students by conducting faculty in-service programs and parent education programs.

* Remains readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.

* Refers students and families to appropriate school and community resources such as school and/or community-based psychologists, school nurses, and administrators for educational and career assistance.

* Participates in, coordinates, and/or conducts activities which contribute to an effective school environment such as interpreting test results, the establishment of grade level liaisons, and being a student advocate.
