Job Description
The School of Engineering would like to hire up to three adjunct professors to teach undergraduate courses and laboratories in Civil Engineering - Civil 3D, Statics, Dynamics, Geotechnical Engineering, Surveying and GIS, Mechanics of Materials, Construction Materials, Structural Analysis, and Laboratory-based introductory courses.
- Developing and enhancing curriculum materials to support student learning.
- Advising and mentoring undergraduate students, and design competitions.
- Promoting ethical standards and professional values in the classroom and beyond.
- Contributing to departmental services, ABET Accreditation, program assessment, and program development.
- Collaborating with faculty to strengthen the undergraduate learning experience.
- Ph.D. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching or strong potential for effective teaching.
- Evidence of mentoring students, with a commitment to supportive pedagogy.
- Ability to teach undergraduate courses and labs.
- Effective communication skills, and commitment to experiential learning and student success.

Other InformationThe School of Engineering at the University of Missouri - Saint Louis (UMSL), invites applications for Adjunct Professor of Civil Engineering. The appointment will begin in Spring 2026. Strong candidates teaching in all substantive areas will be considered, including Civil 3D, Statics, Dynamics, Geotechnical Engineering, Surveying and GIS, Mechanics of Materials, Construction Materials, Structural Analysis, and Laboratory-based introductory courses.
We seek a dedicated educator with a genuine passion for teaching, high ethical standards, and a love for working with students. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's teaching mission, mentor undergraduate students, and help shape the next generation of engineers. The Adjunct Professor reports to the Program Coordinator.
About the School
School of Engineering at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) provides rigorous, relevant and affordable engineering education to a diverse and talented population of students to address the evolving need for engineers and economic growth of the region, state and beyond. The UMSL School of Engineering will house our Bachelor of Science degree programs in Mechanical, Civil and civil engineering. Additional bachelor's degrees, as well as graduate degrees, will be added as the school grows.
The school will be committed to accessibility and flexibility ensuring that students can pursue their educational goals in a manner that suits their needs. Faculty will conduct scholarship to expand the bounds of engineering knowledge. The school will be housed in newly renovated teaching and research labs. This includes a Student Project Design Laboratory where students will turn their innovative ideas into reality.
This facility is being funded by a $15-million grant from the State of Missouri and is expected to be completed in Fall 2026. The school admitted its first cohort of traditional undergraduate students in Fall 2025 with a full opening upon completion of the renovations in Fall 2026.
