St. Stephen Protomartyr School is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and mission‑driven First Grade Teacher for the upcoming school year. This teacher will guide young learners through foundational academic, social, and faith‑based development while supporting the mission of Catholic education. The ideal candidate creates a nurturing, structured classroom environment that promotes curiosity, independence, and a love of learning, and collaborates effectively with colleagues, administrators, and families.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality instruction in core subjects aligned with Archdiocesan and school curriculum standards.
- Develop engaging, age‑appropriate lessons that support literacy, numeracy, and early critical‑thinking skills.
- Foster a warm, supportive classroom environment that encourages respect, cooperation, and active participation.
- Use a variety of assessments to monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of young students.
- Integrate technology and hands‑on learning experiences to enhance instruction.
- Maintain accurate records, including lesson plans, grades, and communication with families.
- Collaborate with primary grade colleagues on curriculum planning, school initiatives, and student support.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school wide events.
- Model and uphold the values of Catholic education and contribute to the spiritual life of the school community.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field required.
- Valid Missouri teaching certification or eligibility for certification.
- Experience teaching early elementary students or working with young children preferred.
- Strong understanding of early childhood development, literacy instruction, and classroom management.
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
The successful candidate demonstrates patience, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit. A passion for early childhood education and a desire to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth are essential. The teacher should bring creativity, warmth, and a willingness to contribute positively to the broader school community.
