EssentialJob Duties
The Grades Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in the daily academic and social life of the classroom, helping to maintain structure, rhythm, and a focused learning environment. Responsibilities include assisting with lessons, supporting students during academic work and practice activities, supervising recess and transitions, helping maintain classroom organization and aesthetics, and providing individual or small-group support as directed by the Lead Teacher.
The assistant models respectful behavior, clear boundaries, and enthusiasm for learning while contributing to a collaborative and professional faculty culture.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with school-age children
- Interest in or familiarity with Waldorf Education
- Ability to support classroom management and maintain clear, consistent expectations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to assist with academic work under the direction of the Lead Teacher (reading, writing, math practice, handwork, or practical projects)
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively and follow the guidance of the Lead Teacher
- Emotional maturity, patience, and the ability to model respectful behavior
- Physical stamina to supervise outdoor play and assist with classroom setup
- Freedom in creating curriculum to meet the needs of the developing children
- Students are assessed using a variety of methods rather than annual standardized tests
- Small class sizes and engaged, curious students

Schedule:
Part Time Monday – Friday 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Additional schedule support positions may be available until 3:00 PM for candidates seeking longer hours.
