Position Description

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a one‑year Visiting Lecturer in Spanish for the  Academic Year. The appointment is expected to begin in August 2026, or as soon as the search is completed. Candidates must have native or near‑native proficiency in Spanish, a Master’s degree or PhD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a related field, and previous college‑level teaching experience demonstrating excellence.

We seek individuals committed to innovative language and culture teaching practices. Teaching‑track faculty in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures regularly have an assignment of three (3) courses per semester, from beginning to advanced language and culture courses, in addition to a service component such as course coordination or other departmental service related to the position. Teaching‑track faculty will not be evaluated on or expected to engage in research or scholarship as part of their appointment.

Required Qualifications

M.A. or Ph.D. in Spanish, Hispanic Studies or related field at the time of appointment (Ph.D. preferred), native or near‑native fluency in Spanish and English, significant teaching experience, and proven expertise in current pedagogical methodologies.
