Role

Prepares for and teaches Carpentry courses and conducts labs as assigned by the department chair of the Carpentry and Building Construction Technology department.

Candidate Profile

This part‑time position suits a Carpentry and Building Construction professional who currently works a daytime job or is retired and wants to share knowledge and skills with future trade professionals. Classes meet two nights during the workweek, approximately 4 hours each night.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned theory and lab classes. Plan daily activities for students in theory and lab.
  • Instruct and evaluate first‑year students in a shop/lab environment and in a lecture/classroom environment.
  • Maintain a safe worksite and enforce Ranken’s safety standards.
  • Assist in the maintenance of carpentry, lab, and classroom equipment.
  • Assist management with developing curriculum and syllabi, scheduling, budgeting, hiring, and other duties.
  • Participate in college governance, committee work, student advising, etc.
  • Participate in available training to remain current in carpentry and building construction technology.
  • Assist in maintaining industry standards requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by an authorized individual.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in carpentry or related field preferred, but not required.
  • Five or more years of residential carpentry experience with a degree, or ten years of experience without a degree.
  • Community college or technical school teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Excellent presentation skills including strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to motivate students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Computer literate in MS Office.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines.
Pay

$35.00 per hour
